For our date tonight, we decided to get something that was fast and easy. We tried the chicken wings at Wing Stop since it was close to the bus terminal @ Cupertino. In this restaurant, there was no other menu except chicken wings (and the side orders). You just need to choose the flavor for your wings.

We picked the Lemon Pepper wings, the Garlic Parmesan wings, the Original Hot wings, and the Hickory Smoked BBQ wings. In addition, we ordered a french fries as the side dish.

Vietnamese Crepe

This time we went to the food court inside Grand Century Mall in San Jose (at Story Road). It has lots of Vietnamese food stalls and one Thai food stall.

I ordered a Vietnamese crepe while Prisci ordered a Thai BBQ chicken combo meal. The crepe came with lots of vegetables. The BBQ chicken meal came with Thai ice tea that could be refilled for up to three times.

Mango Granita

We had a month break last month due to our family trip to Asia. It was a fun trip filled with lots of delicious food. We’ll post the food that we had on a separate posting. So, we started our date night again with a Mexican food. After a month of Asian food, we were craving for some non-Asian taste. Since we have lots of good Mexican food, we thought it would be a good idea to start our date night series with it.

This taqueria restaurant was located right next to the Japan town, just across the Omogari restaurant. It was a little bit surprising that there was some non-Japanese restaurant almost in the center of Japanese area.

We ordered a seafood soup combo and tequila shrimp rice. Also we ordered the mango granita.

Rice Noodle with Meat Balls

Since today was just few days after our anniversary dinner, we decided to eat something that was simple. This time we went to TK Noodle at Story Road, San Jose.

Just as usual, I ordered the combination noodle. Prisci ordered the thick rice noodle with meat balls. In addition, we ordered daikon cake.

Kimchi Fried Rice and Ramyun

We found this Omogari restaurant from a comment to one of our food blog. We made our mind to eat here right after our date last week because Gombei was located right across Omogari. So, tonight, we came straight to Japan Town again to try another new dining place. The restaurant was pretty full, but luckily we still could get an empty table.

I ordered Meat Jun, which was a special menu that was mentioned only on their web page. Prisci ordered the Kimchi fried rice with Ramyun. Even though we only ordered two dishes, we couldn’t finished them all. The portion was really generous, especially the meat jun. FYI, meat jun was Korean style meat pan cake. At the end, they gave us complimentary green tea ice cream.

This was another good comfort food. We were really satisfied with them. Definitely we’ll come back again here some other time.

Fried Snapper and Tuna Sashimi Combo

Tonight we tried a new dining place, Gombei, in Japan Town at San Jose. The place was not big and didn’t have much selection of food, but it had a very high rating for a regular Japanese bento. We decided to try their combo menu which was only written on a white board.

Grilled Macarel and Salmon Croquet Combo

Prisci ordered the fried snapper with tuna sashimi combo. It came with pickled cucumber and miso soup. The snapper was crispy with ponzu sauce. It was very yummy.

I, on the other hand, chose the grilled macarel with salmon croquet. It came with mashed potato and eggplant salad, and also miso soup. The macarel was regular. The croquet, however, was exceptional. It was full of salmon.

Overall, it was a great comfort food.

Pork Skin and Meat Spring Roll

Tonight was my turn to pick a restaurant. We hadn’t been eating Vietnamese food for awhile so I decided to find any good Vietnamese food that was close. I found a Vietnamese restaurant in Sunnyvale that has a pretty good Yelp rating, so we decided to go there.

After entering the restaurant, we realized that we ate at this place once before with our friends. As far as I could recall, the pho wasn’t that good. So we decided to try some entree dishes that were not typical in Pho restaurant.

Squid with Lemongrass and Chilli

For our appetizer, we ordered a pork skin and meat spring roll. Usually, the spring roll came with shrimp. This time we chose the pork skin and pork meat version. The spring roll tasted good, especially this was a new experience. It came with fish sauce on the side.

We ordered a dish of squid with lemongrass and chili and a dish of crispy pompano with tomato sauce. The squid was good with lots of bell peppers. The lemongrass, however, was not strong enough which made the dish less tasty. We expected a strong flavor of lemongrass but got disappointed with it. The crispy pompano was another disappointment for us. We expected the fish to be fried real crispy all around, but most of the meat were already soggy due to the tomato sauce. The taste itself was ok, good but not exceptional.

We were disappointed with the quality of the food. They didn’t have the strong flavor just as an authentic Vietnamese food had. One last note, we were the only patron in that restaurant that night.
